What to Expect When You Are Expecting... a Materntiy Photoshoot!
Congratulations! You’re pregnant, and you want to capture this special moment with a maternity photoshoot! But what can you expect from this experience? Will you be posing like a supermodel or standing awkwardly with your hand on your belly? Fear not, moms-to-be – as a photographer, I’ve got you covered. In this blog post, we’ll go over everything you need to know about your upcoming maternity photoshoot, from what to wear to what poses to strike. So sit back, relax, and let’s get started!
Planning your Maternity Photoshoot
First things first: prep. Before the big day, you’ll want to have a good idea of what you’re looking for. And so do we! Prior to our big day, we will invite you for a consultation at the studio or via Zoom, to find out about all your shoot-related desires.

Ever wondered what it would be like to be a princess for a day, strutting around with a mahooosive ball gown? Say no more! You want it: we’ve got it.
Let’s chat about how we can make all this work for you to create the best set of images you could have imagined.
Are you going for a whimsical, ethereal look, or a more classic vibe? Is there a specific location you have in mind, like a park or a beach?
Tell us about your vision, as well as any poses or shots you’ve seen online that you want to try.
Styling
Not sure about the puffy dresses, and would rather wear something casual, from your own wardrobe? Fine by us!
Maternity photoshoots typically focus on the bump, so you’ll want to wear something that shows it off – think form-fitting dresses or even a shirt.
Bring a few outfits (and accessories!) to change into, and consider getting your hair and makeup done beforehand to really feel like a goddess.
Would you prefer us to take care of the make-up? We can most certainly get this organised, just let us know!
The day of your Pregnancy Photoshoot
On the day of the shoot, we will likely start by getting to know you a little further than we did during your consultation.
We’ll chat about your pregnancy journey, your hopes for the photos, and any concerns you may have.
Then, we’ll get down to business. Expect to do some walking, sitting, and standing – and plenty of posing!
We will guide you through each shot, so don’t worry about looking silly or not knowing what to do.
We’ll help you find the poses and angles that work best for your body, and we’ll make sure you feel comfortable and relaxed throughout the session.
And don’t be afraid to speak up if you have any ideas or suggestions!
We want your input and collaboration to make this session as special as possible, and 100% personalised to YOU and your family.
Speaking of family: they are always welcome to join us to capture some stunning photos, before the new addition arrives!
Posing
When it comes to poses, there are a ton of options. We can go for a classic hand-on-belly shot, or mix it up with some movement or interaction. Consider holding hands with your partner or kids, lying down with your belly exposed, or playing with a balloon or signage to reveal the baby’s gender or name. We will have plenty of ideas to choose from, based on your style and preferences. And don’t forget about the details! We’ll capture close-up shots of your belly and any special items you want to include, like baby shoes or ultrasound photos.
After you photoshoot
After the shoot, we will book your viewing session where you’ll have a chance to preview the photos and choose your favourites. Depending on your package, you may receive edited digital files, slideshow or prints to display in your home or share with loved ones. Find out what’s included in our packages here.
