Plan your Perfect Cake Smash in advance

We recommend booking your session about 3-4 weeks prior to your baby’s birthday.Β

This is to allow enough time for your gallery to be ready as well as any prints your order to arrive.

Most of our cake smash clients enjoy displaying their prints or play the images on a slideshow during the birthday party as well as perhaps using one of their favourite image for the party invite.

Choose the time of your photoshoot carefully

Please ensure your schedule your baby’s first birthday photoshoot for the part of the day when your little one is the happiest and most rested.

Avoid scheduling for nap times or when your little one tends to be needing you most.

Be flexible & keep an open mind

Young children can be unpredictable as you probably have experienced by now.Β

Please be flexible and avoid putting high expectations on yourself or your baby prior to and during your session.Β

This way you’ll be relaxed which in turn will calm your little one resulting in a happy and successful photoshoot.

Snack & water

Not all babies will take to the cake straight away and some will flat refuse to eat it. After all we don’t feed them sweet delights often in their first year of life.Β

To overcome this we advise having your baby’s favourite dry snack with you to spread around the cake for baby to pick and eat instead.

As cake smashing is thirsty work, it’s always handy to have your little one’s water bottle with you as well.

Bring a helper to your first birthday shoot

Having two familiar faces at the studio help your baby settle and feel more at ease.

If your other half are not able to attend the session please try and ask a friend, grandparent or auntie whom baby likes to come along to help.

Pack spare clothes

Smashing cakes is messy business, not only for baby but for parents as well!Β

Your baby will get icing on their hands (and all over their body!) no doubt! But luckily they get to have a bath to wash off afterwards.

Babies like to give and receive reassuring cuddles during our cake smash sessions, so please keep in mind that your clothes may get somewhat messy from those cute (but messy) little hands!

Not just about the smiles

Babies at this age are still so scrumptious and so tiny!

At the same time starting to show their unique personalities and cheeky characters.

Our cake smash sessions are not all about capturing your baby smiling straight into the camera.

We want to capture them playing, exploring, showing their feelings, testing their skills.

Our aim is to capture them as they are, so you can remember their sweetness, their delicate little hands holding toys and picking up things, those cute little toes and their beautiful wondering eyes.

It’s important to capture it all, not just the smiles!
