9 Questions to Ask Before Choosing Your Materntiy Photographer

If you’re expecting a little one soon, congratulations! This is a very special time in your life, and you’ll want to capture it in photos. Pregnancy only lasts for nine months, but the memories will last a lifetime. That’s why it’s essential to choose the right maternity photographer who can help you create the images you want. After all, this will be a moment you will cherish forever, and you won’t want to miss out on the opportunity to document it. Lets look at ten questions to ask before choosing a maternity photographer!Β

What's Your Style?

Every photographer has a unique style, so it’s essential to find a pregnancy photographer that matches your vision. Do you want candid shots, posed photos, or a combination of both? Some photographers specialise in natural light, while others prefer studio lights. Being clear about your preferences and style will help you narrow down your options and choose the right photographer. Before every photoshoot with us, we will make sure to have a thorough consultation with you, to find out what type of images are your absolute favourites and then design your session to highlight this style.Β

What's Included In Your Packages?

Maternity photography packages can vary widely in price and content. Some include digital images only, while others offer a combination of prints, albums, and canvases. Find out what’s included in the package, how many images or prints you’ll receive, and what additional fees you might have to pay. But remember to choose your photographer for the style before you start considering the cost, as once your dinky one is with us, those images will be the main memory you’ll have of this time in your life, and we want you to absolutely love them.Β

Do You Have Props and Outfits?

Props and outfits can help bring your pregnancy photos to life. Many photographers will provide maternity gowns, flower crowns or tiaras. Find out what props and outfits your photographer offers, or if they allow you to bring your own outfits or props.Β

Our studio has a vast selection of dresses and bodysuits, ranging from monochrome and minimalistic to flamboyant and colourful. However you feel on the day, we will have you covered (or uncovered if we mostly focus on classy, nude photographs!).

How Many Years of Experience Do You Have?

Experience is a vital factor in choosing a maternity photographer. It takes a lot of skill to capture special moments, especially when working with pregnant women. An experienced photographer will have worked with many expecting mothers and developed techniques to capture the beauty of pregnancy.Β

Can I See Your Portfolio?

Ask to see specific examples of maternity photo sessions so you can understand the photographer’s style and skill. This will ensure you’re comfortable with their style and that they can deliver a quality photograph.

What's Your Cancellation and Refund Policy?

Unforeseen circumstances can force you to cancel or reschedule your photo shoot. Ask the photographer what their refund policy is, and what their cancellation policy. Without this, you may end up losing deposits or not even being able to cancel or reschedule.Β

Make sure you know what would happen to your deposit, should your dinky, new addition arrive earlier than expected.Β

What's Your Turnaround Time for the Photos?

While some photographers offer quick turnaround times, others can take up to several weeks to deliver your photos. Make sure you understand how long it’ll take to receive your images before hiring the photographer.Β

Do You Have a Backup Plan?

Anything can happen on the day of the shoot. Is your photographer prepared for inclement weather or equipment failure? Will they reschedule the shoot or offer a refund to accommodate their inability to complete the session due to any reason?

How Do You Make Your Clients Comfortable?

Being pregnant can be challenging, and many mothers-to-be can feel awkward, self-conscious, or unattractive. Many photographers will go the extra mile to make their clients feel comfortable. They might provide music, have refreshments on hand, or even bring along a makeup artist for an extra touch-up.Β

At our studio, we understand you and your needs, being mothers ourselves. We know that on the day you may feel slightly tired, maybe even dizzy. We won’t hold you in a pose for longer than necessary and due to our extensive experience, we know which poses should be avoided in order to make sure your baby is as comfortable as possible, too.Β

Pregnancy is a special and short-lived moment in your life. That’s why it’s essential to choose the right photographer that will help you get the photographs you want. Don’t let the feeling of sluggishness stop you from capturing those first images of your baby’s life.Β

By asking the right questions, you’ll be able to find the perfect photographer that matches your style and personality. Whether you prefer a candid photo shoot or a styled setting and wore a fancy maternity dress, the perfect photographer is out there. Remember, the images created will be treasured forever, so take the time to choose wisely!
